A routine docking operation turned chaotic at an Istanbul port, as a cargo ship tipped over onto its side, triggering a swift rescue effort for its crew members.
Authorities have attributed the incident to an imbalanced loading of cargo, which caused the vessel to lose stability and roll over.
The Istanbul governor’s office confirmed the mishap in a statement, highlighting the immediate steps taken to ensure the safety of those on board.
Ten out of the 15 crew members were promptly rescued by aid personnel who rushed to the scene. The remaining five managed to jump into the water and escape to safety.
Among the crew, one individual sustained minor injuries and was transported to a hospital for medical attention, the governor’s office reported.
