NEW DELHI: Amid all the buzz around becoming the youngest player ever to be signed by an IPL franchise, teenage prodigy Vaibhav Suryavanshi has his eyes set on the Under-19 Asia Cup title as the eight-time champions India lock horns with arch-rivals Pakistan in their opener in Dubai on Saturday.
Bihar’s Suryavanshi landed a whopping Rs 1.10 crore IPL contract at the mega auction as Rajasthan Royals made history, bringing in a 13-year-old on board.
Suryavanshi’s base price was Rs 30 lakh but after an bidding war with Delhi Capitals, Royals secured the uncapped teenager for a jaw-dropping amount.
Suryavanshi recently hogged limelight, becoming the youngest to score a century in an international youth match, hitting a 62-ball 104 against Australia Under-19 in Chennai.
Suryavanshi now is representing India at U19 Asia Cup where his focus is on bringing the trophy back home.
“I am managing the hype by focussing on my game. I have not been looking at social media at all. At the moment, my focus is to do well in Aisa Cup, how to win the trophy,” Suryavanshi told Sony Sports ahead of India vs Pakistan U19 Aisa Cup clash.
Suryavanshi recently made his T20 debut for Bihar against Rajasthan in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and earlier this year became the youngest player ever in Ranji Trophy history to debut at 12 years and 284 days against Mumbai.
The left-hander said that he idolizes West Indies great Brian Lara but tries to keep his game natural.
“Brian Lara is my idol and I try to play my innings like he did. But I try to keep it as natural as possible. I look to replicate what I do while practicing,” Suryavanshi said.
Suryavanshi was only 12 when he played in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy for Bihar, aggregating nearly 400 runs in just five matches.
